Matt Sayles is a calm, technically sound goaltender from Milton, Georgia, and one of the three netminders anchoring the Pee Dee IceCats’ crease in their inaugural FPHL season. Having played college hockey at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY, he arrived in Florence as a relatively under‑the‑radar signing. However, he quickly proved he belonged at the pro level with his poised, positionally disciplined style. Sayles isn’t the type to rely on flashy desperation saves — he plays a controlled, efficient game built on angles, rebound management, and reading shooters before they release the puck.
Within the IceCats’ three‑goalie rotation, Sayles has carved out a reputation as the steady one: the goalie who keeps the team in games even when the shot count tilts heavily the other way. His ability to stay composed during extended defensive-zone pressure has earned the trust of both the coaching staff and his teammates. Fans have come to appreciate his consistency, his work ethic, and the quiet confidence he brings to the crease every night he gets the nod.
